Bomadi LGA Council Administration Owes Me An Apology For Destruction of Billboards - Jerry Opuofeni
The Nigerian Democratic Congress, NDC, House of Assembly Candidate for Bomadi Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections, Hon. Jerry Opuofeni, has demanded an apology and reinstallation of his billboards from the leadership of Bomadi Local Government Council over what he described as the reckless destruction of his campaign billboards.
Opuofeni, who spoke to newsmen in Bomadi on Sunday, said the action was carried out despite full compliance with all financial obligations as stipulated by the LGA for outdoor political advertisement.
He described the destruction as undemocratic, provocative and an attempt to stifle legitimate opposition ahead of the 2027 polls.
"My team met all the financial obligations as stipulated by the Bomadi LGA council. We have receipts. Yet my billboards were pulled down without any notice or justification. The council leadership owes me and my supporters an unreserved apology," Opuofeni said.
The House of Assembly hopeful commiserated with his supporters over the development, urging them to remain calm and law-abiding while the party seeks redress through appropriate channels.
His complaint comes days after the Delta State chapter of the NDC raised the alarm over the alleged destruction of its billboards and campaign materials in parts of the state.
At a news conference in Asaba, the State Chairman of the party, Chief Angiamaowei Oyindoubra, had cited alleged incidents in Bomadi and Isoko South local governments, where he claimed the party's billboards and campaign materials were pulled down or destroyed.
Oyindoubra alleged that the incident in Bomadi occurred under the watch of the APC-led council administration headed by Mr Dagidi Adaye, an allegation the council chairman is yet to officially deny or condemn.
Opuofeni, however, insisted that evidence of payment and mounting approval exists, calling on the Delta State Government, security agencies and civil society organizations to intervene and guarantee a level playing field for all political parties.
He said, "Any action by government or government-aligned authorities that unlawfully suppresses legitimate political competition must be condemned outright. If you don't want our billboard, allow us to campaign peacefully. We will not be intimidated."
He vowed to pursue this injustice in court even as he continues his consultation across Bomadi constituency, adding that no amount of intimidation would deter him from his ambition to provide quality representation come 2027.
