Bomadi LGA Boss Pledges Sponsorship of Ughelli Ijaw End of Year Celebration
Andaye also promises to clear Izon House rent arrears, urges unity among Ijaws in Ughelli Kingdom
The Chairman of Bomadi Local Government Area, Hon. Dagidi Rawlings Andaye, has pledged to sponsor the Ughelli Ijaw End of Year Celebration, describing the event as critical to promoting Ijaw culture and unity in Delta State.
Hon. Andaye made the commitment on Sunday during a stakeholders meeting of the Izon Community in Ughelli Kingdom. The meeting was fully attended and the LGA boss was personally present.
Beyond the celebration, the Bomadi Chairman also promised to assist in paying the backlog of rent for the Ijaw secretariat in Ughelli, popularly known as "Izon House."
Addressing the gathering, Hon. Andaye urged Ijaws living in Ughelli to put aside political differences and prioritize the collective interest of the Ijaw nation.
"The unity and progress of the Ijaws should be our priority no matter what," he said. "We are stronger together, and our strength lies in how well we stand as one people."
The Chairman further called on the President General of the Izons in Ughelli Kingdom, Hon. GodsPower Mabiko, to intensify efforts at reconciling members and to show more eagerness in the discharge of his duties.
On the issue of Tantita stipends, Hon. Andaye advised the current Ughelli Ijaw leadership to formally apply for a change of account details from the former president to the new leadership. He also urged them to let go of stipends still being paid to the former president "for the sake of unity and sportsmanship."
In his response, Hon. GodsPower Mabiko expressed appreciation for the gesture and commended Hon. Dagidi Andaye for what he described as "selfless and committed leadership."
The President General said the pledges, if fulfilled, would go a long way in strengthening the presence and welfare of Ijaws in Ughelli Kingdom.
The meeting ended with prayers for peace, progress, and greater collaboration among Ijaw communities across the Niger Delta.
