THE BOMADI/PATANI APC HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES PRIMARY ELECTION: DR. BARRY GBE’S CLAIM ON LEGITIMACY AND MORALITY AND THE PHILOSOPHY OF ESCROW.
( Featured Article)
In the aftermath of the APC House of Representatives Primary election conducted for the Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency on Saturday 16th of May, 2026, the Economic Adviser to the Governor of Delta State, Dr. Barry Gbe philosophically asserted that “when legitimacy coincides with morality, people go far morality especially when there is poor representation”. Part of the emphasis to the backgrounding of this very cocky postulation is that Hon. Mutu derived legitimacy from the basic law of the land, the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, that provides limitless legislative tenure representation until voted out, but on grounds of morality the people made their choice due to poor representation. This is a pernicious fallacy plotted to mislead the eyes and minds of our people.
First, the presumption is hollow and deceptive within the context of it being that there is no instance of morality deficit that cripples the knees of legitimacy as to suggest poor representation. X-raying the kernels of the developmental strides and achievements of Hon. Mutu, one can joyfully state that he has a lot of good works on ground that speaks for him. The debate and conclusion on his effective representation is an old story. His achievements for our people must not and cannot be buried in the graves of envy, bias, malicious politics and pleasure that can only be garnered by fastidious opposition.
The philosophy of escrow refers to the core principles of trust, neutrality and risk elimination. It requires that two parties on a high-stake deal rely on a neutral third party to hold assets safely, ensuring neither side is cheated or defaults before the contractual terms are fully met. The escrow agent operates strictly as an impartial intermediary to guarantee mutual protection, eschew contingency failures and decision is made when mutually agreed-upon milestones are satisfied. The philosophy of escrow is a legal and financial management principle. It remains the same but applied in different industrial contexts.
In the ugly scenario of the above referenced election, the central Returning Officer, who is the escrow agent with imputed trust to ensure mutual protection, prevent contingency failure and declare collated results upon the satisfaction of the mutually-agreed upon milestones required in a credible primary election. He descended to the arena of conflict and took sides.
Dr. Tilije was never a neutral third party expected to provide fairness in a high-stake primary election. He personified the fraud perpetrated in the election by declaring results that did not emanate from the wards. He declared results of his own creation. He orchestrated the devilish, midday robbery of the will of the people expressed in the votes trickled in from across all the wards in the constituency in favour of Hon. Mutu. "The people chose morality…" Hmmm! What manner of morality? Was it morality that perverted the will of the people? There is no such concept as the evil of morality.
What has morality to do with a grotesque parody of an election than robbed the electoral rights of our people and taking us a million step backward into the distant times of electoral darkness? What has morality to do with suppression of democratic values? What has morality to do with a Returning Officer (Dr. Adolor) who introduced himself as a Bishop and man of the Gospel but scribbled fake results on a tissue paper for declaration, and not on a lawfully known electoral document? What has morality to do with a Returning Officer using the name of the Governor of Delta State as an INTRODUCTORY NOTE while declaring fabricated results? What has morality to do with a Returning Officer who apologized for arriving Bomadi late, claimed to have distributed materials, had accreditation, conducted voting, collated results from all the wards within two and half hours in a complex, riverine constituency, when it is public knowledge in the annals of our electoral history that elections run through a whole day because most of our communities could only be reached by boat within a spatial time frame of one to two hours?
In summation, morality requires that the actual votes that emanated from the wards, reflecting the aspirations of the people --- the voice of a resounding support base expressed in the votes cast for the successful re-election of Rt. Hon. Nicholas Mutu. The votes should be used to declare the true winner of the primaries as a remedy; as a clinical prophylactic to the fake results announced. Morality will not allow the most ranking lawmaker in Nigeria to be manipulated out by disgruntled, electoral shylocks. Morality requires that the stolen mandate be restored. Morality requires that the voice of corrosive political jobbers must not be heard.
On a final note, the claim above on legitimacy and morality is a philosophical miscue. It is faulty in formation and reasoning, designed to cause a deliberate semantic distraction from the truth and reality of what transpired on the 16th of May, 2026 in the Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency House of Representative Primary Election. Authentic results sacrificed on the altar of fabricated results. Hon. Mutu’s traducers should know that adultery is a civil wrong but it becomes a crime when committed with the King’s wife. Hon. Mutu remains the choice of the people and they have clearly and gallantly expressed so. Criticism is not enmity and sycophancy is not devotion.
