Maringo; Dead body 90 And Other Childhood Humours

Maringo : Dead Body 90 And Other Childhood Humours - Tam Oburumu
Grinning at the simultaneous memorial flashbacks of my cradled past transverses me yet to another dramatic stage in Ayakoromo, my own Soyinka's Ake. I get humorously worked up any time such reflections rewind the past to my present even at slow-pace I so desired with much irresistibility. It's soothing picking up the pieces of the dying time to smile in the midst of the solitary confinement Nigeria's evil leaders and their stupid followers have institutionalized. Aside the traditional adventures of my childhood that river Forcados partly helped to rejuvenate, there was the other side of the news, the village thugs, armed with the mystery of the NPAed Warri waterside egburuku boys. They flaunt the Warri -cornered syndrome that twilights its lineage to Sand-field one and two on the fragility of the villagers...The 80s and 90s were beneath their feet Ayakoromo unflinchingly became the market square for her sons to showcase the Warri ejakuda prowess, leaving the victims jaw broken, bruised faces and at times physically or mentally injured. There are dangerously entertaining masquerades in Ayakoromo; The Olorogun, Abasuo , Osuopele ,Oki etc..Maringo and his peers were the human version of those masquerades! Brutal in anger , loving in happiness. In the heart of this notoriety, Ghesha a.k.a Maringo a.k.a Dead-body 90 was outstanding in bringing comic relief to the scary stories they create on their victims. He was the undisputed ' last man standing' amongst the Philips, Odilos, jimcallys ,Binabis etc... I remembered one of my uncles ran within the darkness, his face bleeding, wailing in pains ...It was Maringo's vengeance on a cultured university undergraduate. The gangs, specifically credited to Maringo, brightened Ayakoromo in a rather negating atmosphere but ironically putting smiles on the populace, undoubtedly became fans to their humorously dramatic street brawls and verbal quarrels. Broken bottles, daggers and clubs are used in the making of their stunts but fists were more dangerously activated. In the mood of conviviality ,Maringo will comfortably drive away contemporary Basket Mouth and I Go Dye to the bins, making them eat their vomit with his extraordinary stand-up comedic performances. Inside the thuggery, criminality and mischievous cloak , there was clearly a silent talent that was hijacked by illiteracy, bad leadership, societal decay and parental gap in Maringo and his contemporaries then . Caught short by prison terms and bullet sprees of the Nigeria army when he will regretting his active years , Maringo is a metaphor of millions of youths who are living the opposite of their destinies because of a society that bury their young ones immediately after birth. At times good things come out of bad things. We need to build our youths into responsible citizens by encouraging their education and talents. It is our responsibility as parents , society and government. That was Maringo the humorous thug who reigned over the squelchy kingdom of River Forcados. #tamprinciples #NeverGiveUpSpirit #Makingitright
