Tam Oburumu Biography

 Oburumu Tamaraukepreye, popularly known as  Tam Oburumu is a Nigerian writer, activist, social critic and tutor.


He was born on the 26th,December,1977 at the Central Hospital Warri, Bendel state, now Delta State.Though he has genealogical affiliations with Orogun ,Ofonibengha and Okpare towns, he hails from Ogbeinama and Ayakoromo towns, both in Delta State, Nigeria. 


CHILDHOOD 

Tam Oburumu grew up with his maternal grandparents after a brief stay with his mother Aleibiriere Onduku-Oburumu, who was a primary school teacher at Bomadi town. Her sudden sack from the teaching job in the early eighties forced the young Tam and his siblings Tobi, Timi and Tare to stay with his grandmother, Oyakemederikumor Amgbaduba -Onduku. 

Tam Oburumu was at different times shuttling between his maternal grandmother and grandfather Chief T. O Onduku  as they took turns in his upkeep until he lost his grandmother in 1994. At age fourteen, he was forced to survive alone in Ayakoromo through engaging in some rural activities like most of his age grade to survive.  He fetched firewoods ,dived water snails and accompanied more older men to cut palm fruits. 

He left Ayakoromo in 1995 to reunite with his siblings and mother aftter much turmoils. 

EDUCATION 

Tam Oburumu attended Olou Primary School Bomadi, Ngbelebiri Primary School Ayakoromo, Temezibau Primary School Okpokunou between 1982 to 1990.

In 1991, he was enrolled as a secondary school student in Ayakoromo Grammar School Ayakoromo which he left in 1996. He also had a one year spell at Kapkiama Secondary School  for the purpose of writing his SSCE. 

in 1999,after a long wait, he enrolled for the General Certificate Examination(GCE) in Ughelli North LGA  in which he passed in outstanding grades. 

Tam Oburumu has a double Hons in English Language of the Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife from the Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo  in 2005.

ACTIVISM 

Tam Oburumu ventured into activism in 1998 when he participated in the bloody Kaiama Declaration Protest by the Ijaw youths of the Niger Delta. He was reputed to be the one to fired the first shot a day before the protest commenced around the Niger Delta. 

Tam Oburumu was also part of the South West Students who came from various higher institutions to protest against political corruption in Akure in 2004. 

He is a very active voice against bad leadership and poor legislative representation in Nigeria particularly the Niger Delta.  He had solely condemned the gross underdevelopment in the Niger Delta especially the Ijaw riverine areas. He is one of the uncompromised activists who raised voice against the political leaders despite the persecution and victimization. 

WRITING CARRER 

Tam Oburumu is no doubt an unsung prolific writer whose articles, poems, novels, plays and academic texts have been applauded by his ardeht readers .

He is a gifted scriptwriter, author and speech composer. 

POLITICAL CAREER 

Tam Oburumu contested for a seat in the Delta State House of Assembly to represent Bomadi Constituency in 2019 under the African Action Congress (AAC) . He had not dropped his ambition of giving the people qualitative representation despite the shortcomings in the election that was marked with massive rigging and violence. He was the leader of AAC in Bomadi LGA and a very vocal opposition voice.He is at present the house of assembly candidate of the Young Progressive Party YPP to represent Bomadi constituency in 2023 general elections 

TEACHING CARRER

Tam oburumu has taught in various private and government schools as literature and English teacher since 1999/2000 starting from Government College Bomadi.  He has also taught in Government College Ughelli, Akugbene Grammar School, Okoloba Secondary School,Enekorogha Grammar School before venturing into politics. 

HUMANITARIAN ACTIVITIES 

Tam Oburumu has been gifting textbooks to poor secondary school students across Bomadi LGA schools. He was involved in free extra moral lessons  to primary and secondary schools since 1993.

POSTS 

Tam Oburumu was the Editor in Chief of the National Union  of Izon Ibe Students ,Adeyemi college of Education and Obafemi Awolowo University in 2002/2003.

He was the founder and president of African Writers Association on campus. 

He was also  the drama and dance director, batch B, Platoon 2,NYSC camp, Maiduguri Borno State .2006.

AWARDS

Tam Oburumu has received some outstanding awards amongst which are the Youth Ambassador of the Year 2019,presented by the Nigerian Merit Awards.  Humanitarian Award for the year 2015 by Ayakoromo Students. 


IDEOLOGY 

Tam Oburumu believes in good leadership for everyone irrespective of tribe, race ,religion and social stratification . He has been canvasing for non violent approach in agitating for,economic, social and political freedom. 

FAMILY 

Tam Oburumu has three lovely kids Kendrick, Kendriah and Kendalyn.

Mama Aleibiriere at 70 ( Special Edition)

MAMA ALEIBIRIERE AT 70 March 21st , 2025 will forever fresh in the memories of the Oburumus and Ondukus as they celebrated the 70th birthday of their loving wife,mother, grandmother, mother in-law , sister , aunt etc. Encomiums rained like blessings as family and well wishers conversed at her residence for the reception after the Thanksgiving Service at All Saints Anglican Cathedral Ughelli on the 23rd of March 2025.
