WAEC Bows to Nigerian Government, shifts Examination
The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has finally bowed to Nigeria, reputed to have the highest number of candidates, by shifting the West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) from August 4th to September 5th 2020.
This was announced to press by the Minister of state for Education, Hon.Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba after a meeting with officials of the council in Abuja.
Both parties have agreed on the new date with strict compliance to the Covid-29 precautionary guidelines by the centres and schools the examination is expected to hold.
It will be recalled, the Minister for Education, Adamu Adamu has earlier excluded Nigerian schools from the examination citing Covid-19 dangers and WAEC inability to take stakeholders, especially Nigeria along before making the decision of commencing the examination on August 4th , 2020.
With this development, schools are preparing to meet up the necessary guidelines set up by NCDC before the September 5th commencement date.
Xtrim News finds out, there is celebration amongst school owners and heads about the news while most parents and human rights groups have questioned how feasible can government and schools provide safety measures to these children during the one month long examination during this dangerous Covid-19 period .
