Blast NLC Chairman For Agreeing with State Government on Salary Cut
Delta State civil servants have cried out over the proposed salary cut of workers in the state starting from July 30th, citing economic woes and harsh conditions for civil servants if the plan is not aborted .
The state government and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) , Delta State chapter headed by Goodluck Afobruku come to an agreement to cut workers salaries by reversing to the old salary structure of N18,000 .
This was announced by the Secretary of the State Government, Mr Chiedu Ebie shortly after the meeting with NLC officials .
Xtrim News exclusively confirms, the pay cut policy is necessary due to reduced federal allocations and low IGRs in the state because of the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic.

This has made it very difficult to paying the monthly huge wage bill of 7.4 billion naira hence the necessary salary deduction of every worker until there is relative development in allocations and IGRs.
Xtrim News gathers, workers are not happy with the development and has blamed the state NLC chairman of agreeing to such insensitivity against workers .
Speaking to Xtrim news , a senior civil servant, who pleaded anonymity says , it's a very bad thing for government to think of reducing workers' salaries when things are very hard with many civil servants relying on loans to survive. According to his words;
" How on earth, will the NLC chairman agree with the state government on this ploy to kill workers ? Comr.Afobruku should know ,the present salary structure of workers is not even enough.Reducing it for whatever reason in an oil producing state like Delta is retrogressive and unimaginable.
How will the banks make the monthly deductions on the loans by workers ? This is insensitive and should be discouraged."
Though the state government has announced that the deductions of workers salaries is a temporary measure because of the harsh economic conditions of the country due to Covid-19 ,workers are not happy with their chairman for quickly agreeing with the Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa led Delta State government without due consultations with stakeholders.
